The cabinets are here!!!!!

Today was a beautiful day. Sometime this morning a big delivery was made all the way from Huntsville. Yes, the cabinets finally came. With 3 hiccups related to the delivery, I held my breath before I left for work this morning hoping that when I came home I would have a wall (and semi-wall) full of cabinets. Low and behold guess what was waiting for me:

Appliance wall.

The cabinets are custom-built. We were going to go with Ikea cabinets to save money and splurge on other items. But after speaking with the contractor and the fact that the cost for these custom babies were, in fact, almost similar for the pre-fab version, we opted for the former. The layout is courtesy of Huan’s creative and obsessive design tweaked by our architect friend Gary’s similar obsessive compulsiveness ( I say both with a lot of affection).

Mapping out the cabinetry was a painstaking process. Prior to even starting I had to measure the tallest items and inventory everything. Anyone who knows me knows I have a-lot-o-gear. So cataloguing everything was a pain in the you you-know-what.

Wide pots and pans drawers. I was testing which length pull looked better.

The style of the cabinets are European frameless. The color of the cabinets are custom. We selected Benjamin Moore’s “Ozark Shadow.” However, when we did a test run the color looked a little blue. So we removed .25% of the black undertone. We were trying to get a cross between gray and  taupe to be able to mix and match other colors in the house more easily. The cabinet fabricator matched the custom sample and came up with this:

The coveted pull out pantry. In the old kitchen I had a make shift pantry so this space was really important.

Installation.

There are still a few minor tweaks, but overall the cabinets look great. Next step- the countertops.
